DOMS and Last Day for +2 Chances!

August 31, 2010

Happy Tuesday readers. What would otherwise be one of my favorite days of my training program (“3-mile Tuesdays!”) has been ruined by DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness for those of you who are privileged enough to not  know what it is). I knew on Sunday that I’d probably be eating my “my legs feel great!” words at some point this week. The worst part is that with DOMS, by the time your muscles are sore, touching them (which helps to circulate the blood flow and heal them) also hurts a lot! To bolster tonight or not to bolster?; That is the question.

(I’m leaning more towards NOT since I should have bolstered on Sunday after my bike ride.) I’ll be running 3 miles tonight either way and I’m NOT looking forward to it.

As for the chalk campaign, it has been wildly successful. The blog stats are through the roof. Because of the results, it is going to be an on-going portion of my fund-raising efforts throughout the Fall. In addition, I had an idea last night to make it even better the next time around. What is it? I’m not telling yet! All I can promise you is that it will be good. I ran it by my husband last night (I love feedback) and he smiled. He’s not a grumpy bugger, but for him to smile in response to one of my ideas is rare, so I know it’s really good.

This weekend I’ll be running with some Clif Shot Bloks (PS – why do they have to leave out the “C”?) so I’ll give you a review on Sunday. In the interim, I wanted to tell you about two other really good snacks that I’ve been enjoying:

Kellogg’s Special K Fruit Crisps:

and Slim-Fast Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin Meal Bars:

As for the Kellogg’s Fruit Crisps, I got a package of Strawberry a few weeks ago and I’ve been relishing them in work ever since. On the days when I forget to pack my fruit, they deliver a sweet taste without a lot of calories (only 100!). In short, they taste just like Pop-Tarts too so if you like Pop-Tarts, save yourself some calories and buy a box of these.

In regards to the Slim-Fast Oatmeal Raisin Bars all I can say is, “Mmm. Mmm. Good!” Note, I don’t actually eat these as a meal. I eat these when I want a cookie but I don’t want to beat myself up for 300+ calories of poor nutrition. While the Oatmeal Raisin bar isn’t the healthiest thing you could eat, it’s really not bad for 200 calories and it tastes just like a really delicious oatmeal raisin cookie. They’re a little high on the fat side, but certainly not higher than a REAL cookie and each bar has 8g of protein, which, as far as I’m concerned means it’s a hidden-nutrition treat.

On a final note, today is the LAST DAY for the ‘donation deal’ that I’m running: Make your donation today and we’ll throw your name into the raffle bucket TWO EXTRA TIMES. I know that most of you don’t need a raffle to make a donation, but in today’s world and crappy economy, everyone’s vying for your money and I want to know – do those other people who are asking you for a donation have a raffle? I think not. (Or maybe they do but I bet they don’t have a really cool and sometimes funny blog too, do they!?)

So anyway, of course you can make a donation ANYTIME until December 4, 2010 but if you’re planning on doing it anyway, then I hope you make your donation today to take advantage of the awesome raffle prizes which I worked so bard to obtain.

Until tomorrow my dear readers,

ep
